Bijo (美女) | Original Charcoal Drawing

Bijo (美女) | Original Charcoal Drawing by Dirk Strangely With this piece, I wanted to capture a feeling of mystery, power, and beauty. I grew up surrounded by Japanese art and culture. My aunt was born in Okinawa while my grandfather was stationed there with the U.S. Air Force, so Japanese influences were part of my upbringing. I've always been fascinated by Japanese art and the way it conveys such striking beauty, strength, and a sense of wisdom. There's something about the elegance and quiet power of its imagery that has always resonated with me. I created Bijo, which means "Beautiful Woman" in Japanese, as a charcoal tribute to the art and culture that inspired me throughout my life. I wanted her expression to feel peaceful yet powerful, with a sense of mystery that leaves something to the imagination. Medium: Charcoal Size: 11 x 14 inches Year: 2025 Artist: Dirk Strangely Original Artwork: One of a kind, signed by the artist.
